Q1 2023 PERFORMANCE REPORT.
RESEARCHERS:
On February 7, Dr. Derek Wainwright, Scientific Director for Brain Tumor Research at Loyola University Strich School of Medicine, was notified by the National Institute of Health (NIH) that his grant application was in the top 3% of all NIH applications. His focus is on understanding why older adults succumb to brain tumors significantly faster than younger people. By identifying these age-dependent factors, Dr. Wainwright hopes to therapeutically neutralize them so older adults can live significantly longer like young GBM patients do. Dr. Wainwright acknowledged our support of this research and said this award would not have been possible without early funding that the GBM foundation supplied him.
On March 31, Dr. Edjah Nduom was awarded the Daniel Louis Barrow Endowed Chair at Emory University School of Medicine. The endowed chair not only recognizes his achievements in neurosurgery, but also will provide resources to support his research efforts to improve the lives of those affected by malignant brain tumors by harnessing the power of the immune system. GBM Foundation is proud to support his innovative work at Emory University. EVENTS:
We held our 6th Ales for Ashley in Texas on March 11. The event took place at Rahr and Sons Brewery in Fort Worth. In addition to great food, beer, music (once again provided by Sara and the Saratones), a raffle and silent auction, we were able to hold our first ever corn-hole tournament and a representative from Kendra Scott set up a table with 10% of the sales going to the charity. Many thanks to all who came to the event and to the hard-working crew that provided their time, energy, donations, and food to make this possible. Thanks to you, the GBM Foundation raised $5,435. 100% of those funds will be donated to our research partners. https://www.gbmfoundation.com/research-partners
